Changing Habits That Are Deeply Ingrained in the Subconscious


Ever trying changing a habit so desperately only to find out that something deep within is not willing? You have gone to counselors, the psychologists, spent money on self-help books and running to every sort of seminar that includes the self-help stuff only to find yourself at the same position you were in before? It is said that it is at this moment when the subconscious and the conscious are at logger heads and in most cases the subconscious wins. 

 

Our habits drive our lives, that is why it is important to bring the bad habits into our conscious awareness and replace them with the obstruct ones to be able to move forward. If you are not yet where you want to be or if you have not yet achieved what you have always desired for a long time then you ought to really examine your approaches to life.

 

I suggest you prepare a list of how you perceive things around you or your attitude toward life. Of course, you will have those that do not serve you well and you don’t have to beat yourself down because of it, after all you are human. All you have to do is eliminate them completely and replace them with their opposite ones. Say you think that you are looser and you cannot achieve anything in life or that life is way too hard whatever your perception is, your subconscious takes it in and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. 

 

So instead of saying that, think of the past achievements or think of how much you can achieve and conquer a lot and how easy life can get if only you apply the right skills. You may not believe it but I advise that you keep doing it, fake it till you make it. Keep repeating those words to yourself as much as possible and no matter how long it takes, you will enjoy its aftermath. 

 

This exercise requires some time, full time dedication and a burning desire to really do it and achieve your goals otherwise if you easily give up you will not go far. You should set time for some deep analysis of your habits and do more of meditation to help relax your mind. Keep the positive attributes coming until it becomes your new approach to life. Your mind will have a new command to steer you directly into your dreams.

Why Is Changing a Habit So Difficult?


Changing a habit is like getting out of your comfort zone and this is a very difficult task to undertake no matter how desperate we are to change a habit that we dislike in ourselves. Most people have a habit they would like to modify be it physical, mental spiritual or even emotional, something that does not please us. Habits become deeply ingrained in our minds thus making a change can really turn out to be complex. To be able to make change, you have to focus on what the behavior you want to achieve and not the one you want to eliminate and by doing this you will replace that behavior in your subconscious mind. 

 

Ever wonder why it is easy for some people to change while others just can’t? Well, it all has to do with the subconscious desire. When you have that real burning desire on your subconscious level then you are more likely to get it without having to endure any pain. It can happen that you desire something consciously but your subconscious has been affected so you may destroy yourself slowly. The trick can be helping yourself subconsciously want the change your conscious mind desires and the only way to do that is to look back and see the issues that may have been affecting your perception in terms of your behavior. This will help both your conscious and subconscious work in harmony to produce a great achievement. 

 

You have to write and rewrite your perceptions that limit you from being a better person to be able to move the roadblocks and move beyond them. Once you have the behavior that needs change, then we can look at how to initiate and maintain a change. 

 

i.       Pre-contemplation—here the person has not yet known that they have a problem and they may try to avoid the subject and think that just one tempting treat won’t hurt. 

 

ii.      Contemplation—this is when a person is aware of their problem but not sure if they want to make a change. They realize they should have done things differently but don’t. 

 

Preparation; here a person is ready to make changes, they are not completely willing to but they are ready to change. Mostly this stage is entered when change is unbearable. Action; now in this stage the person gets ready to make changes but that is no all. In the maintenance stage the person affected has to learn to maintain the changes and be cautious not to relapse or else they will have to go through the stages all over again. 



Achieving Happiness Through Meditation


There is only one way to achieve happiness. That way is to simply be happy. You are probably thinking right now how do i get to be happy." "Things just don't work like that, it doesn't take into consideration the times that I am miserable because of problems or mishaps that come up in my everyday life, not to mention the tragedies." At this point I have to stop and meditate. Meditation can be done many different ways, just find the one that works best for your purposes. 

 

Being happy much more of the time than you have been is an incredibly difficult task to accomplish-not in the doing of it once you know how and then in keeping aware of what you have discovered. Yet, I still say that with meditation you can do it! The path that you have chosen that led you to your current situation was not a few days or months in the making, but a long and strenuous path that has spanned through many years.

 

In reality it has taken you as long as you have been alive to become the way you are today. It has also taken you that long to achieve what you have achieved, to possess, and to arrive at your current condition. By taking the time to meditate and think about who you are, and what you have in your life is truly what you want, if you are completely satisfied with the way your life is going, congratulations - do more of what you have been doing and you will get more of what you already have in your life.

 

But if who you are, what you want, what you have, and your current conditions are less than what you want or perhaps are different from what you want, you have to start meditating about some basic changes you will need to make in your life. Failure to make those changes will find you continuing to seek the things you really would like in your life as the years pass by.

 

Because some of this that you are reading will seem impossible, ridiculous, or to you maybe even foolish and it may at first offend you, causing you to ridicule what you are reading and maybe even cause you to reject what you have read. I really want to suggest to you that before you may reject how meditation can help you through your life, ask yourself whether or not you want it to be true-then for your benefit please give yourself the chance to see it as true.

 

In this day and time with all the things we have to deal with in our lives it is very hard to stay on a positive level and be happy all the time, but just taking a few minutes a day just meditating by yourself will help you keep things in perspective where instead of being unhappy about the situation you are in you can find a way to find the happy part of being unhappy.

 


Adapting To Change With Meditation


Adapting to any kind of change in your life can be very stressful. The one thing I have learned when it comes to any kind of change is to keep it on a positive level. To do that I stay calm by meditating and keep it all in perspective. I was talking to a friend how I was very apprehensive about a change I would soon have to make in my life. She told me that almost over twenty years ago she had bought a brand-new car and it was parked in an alley next to her house. 

 

She walked out of the house just in time to see and old VW bus scrape the front fender of her car. As she continued to tell me what happened she let me know she was trying to stay calm and knew she had to meditate and get focused on the situation. She went on to tell me that the driver got out of his car, threw his hat on the ground, then hung his head, holding it in his hands. She knew that he obviously didn't have the money to pay for the damage to her car and he almost started to cry.

 

My friend still meditating to keep things in perspective walked up to the man and you could tell he was very nervous and expected her to say something like “What an idiot”, “Are you blind”, or just something so mean that he would just feel terrible. As she walked up to the man she simply said don't worry about the scrape and to have a nice day. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. He began to cry tears of happiness and hugged my friend. He then ran to his wife who was in the car wondering what they were going to do and he hugged his wife and introduced her to my friend. 

 

As they were talking my friend told them how she used meditation to keep as calm as possible because she had a temper in the past that caused her a lot of problems. The man and his wife and my friend became the best of friends. Here it is 20 years later and even though the man has now passed away and his wife is in a home for the elderly my friend still visits the woman every week and still talk about the day they had met. 

 

Using meditation will certainly help you think about the situation you’re in and to not act on impulse, but to handle whatever situation it is you are in you will act responsibly. After my friend and I talked I thought how I could adapt to the change I would have to make by positive thinking and could make a bad situation into something that will have a very special meaning in my life. After our talk, I went home and started using meditation to relax myself and now I feel better about myself and my life.

Controlling Anger With Meditation


I have never really thought of myself as an angry person. I would always do whatever I could to try and help someone out, nor did I do anything that would hurt someone’s feelings, or I would try as hard as I could not to. Every month we struggle to get by but I really didn't complain. I was just happy that we did have the money to pay our bills and have a place to live even though we barely had enough to survive on after paying the bills. Meditation is very much needed in most people’s lives, no doubt about that. 

 

Even after all that I did not get angry; That changed last week. I really had to meditate to myself when I went with my sister to the doctor last week. My sister is a very hard worker. She never misses work unless it is absolutely necessary. Last year my sister had become sick and finally after being so weak she went to the doctor. He put her in the hospital and gave her 4 bags of blood and said she had pneumonia.

 

I just couldn't understand how do you lose blood by having pneumonia. As I meditated thinking about last year I was not prepared to hear what the doctor was going to say as my sister and I were driving to the doctor. You see my sister got sick again. She nearly collapsed at work and was taken to the hospital. This time she needed 5 bags of blood. She would keep telling me she was anemic. After the hospital did a CT scan on her they said she needed to go to her lung doctor immediately. That’s where my sister and I were going.

 

My sister never wants me to worry so she never told me anything and did not want me to go in the room with her when she went in to see the doctor. After I meditated on this I decided when they called her name I would go back with her, and that's exactly what I did. The doctor came in and you could see immediately the concern on his face. He starting reading the results of her CT scan. He was reading something about her lungs.

 

He talked about something growing in her nodules and spreading to her lymph nodes. He wasn't saying it was cancer but I knew by what he was reading it was. I didn't want to scare my sister so meditating to myself while he was talking, I asked what does all this mean? Instead of asking is it cancer I asked could it be cancer? 

 

His response was “Yes mam.” She has to go for a biopsy in a couple of days to see how far it has progressed. I really find myself angry at this point because she has never smoked a day in her life, and here she is 49 years old with lung cancer. So instead of worrying for the next couple of days and getting angry, I simply practice meditation by praying that god please heal my sister.

Not Attaining Spirituality Leads to Suffering of Modern Man


We have the common person who is so caught in the circle of ignorance, poverty and illiteracy that he does not have any time to learn the moralities of life. But then, how can a man know about religion, God or focus on soul when he is on an empty stomach? Yet, it is the poor who still have some vestige of humanness and goodness in them. Even today, they consider a guest as a messenger of God and treat him as such, sharing magnanimously whatever little they have. Many city dwellers must have experience to selfless concern of a poor when in trouble. There is so much wisdom in their words, though they are illiterate perhaps, struggle for survival teaches them invaluable lessons. 

 

Where will these mindless pursuit of transient think lead? With these, man cannot be happier or peaceful. Today everyone complains of degeneration of values and corruption in all lifestyles. However, nobody seems to be prepared to break away from it and make a fresh beginning. Corruption has become a chronic future of our times, so much so that pupil has started treating it as a normal future. They no longer show righteous indication against corrupt practices, fights in justice of express any shock when cruel or inhuman acts are committed against their brethren. They choose to remain apathetic or give vent to important rage in the comfort of their drawing room chairs. However, there can be no hope for man if the present trend continues and man remains insensitive to the needs of others. Modern man has dug his own grave by rejecting the moral and spiritual values upheld in the ancient scriptures of the whole world. Bible, Adi Granth, Ramayana, Bhagavad Geeta all contain pearls of wisdom which man has disdainfully rejected. Money has become God. It is to the sound of money that man responds and not the chiming of bells in the churches, temples, etc., which were once considered the above of God. 

 

Today, Faustus has universal significance. The people of today’s age have temptations all around. Everyone falls prey to these temptations. However, it is only after a certain time passes do they realize that uselessness of these materialistic things. Due to this, people of today commit so much sin, evil and corruption. The future of humanity is really in the hands of those who can bring about a reawakening of man’s higher consciousness. 

 


Spiritual Deprivation of Modern Man and Its Consequences


Man has become too preoccupied in the pursuit of material things. Money is the end in itself and not a means to an end. This excessive urge for materialistic gains has made him ignore the spiritual and moral aspect of life. He considers them obsolete and unproductive. Today, man is motivated to do something only if he is assured of reasonable profit. He has no time or inclination to pause for some time and ask himself where it is leading him. Such is the present social environment that even a child cannot remain unaffected by it. It is so easy to console a child with a promise of a gift and divert his mind from something parents have no patience to deal with. 

 

Life has become so mechanical. A child, until he becomes an adult, is pressurized every moment to excel and become skillful so that he does not lag behind in his studies. He is not given any lesson in the art of living. The total stress is on the art of how to earn a living. Therefore, from a very tender age, young minds become warped due to the obsessive preoccupation of the adults with security. Undoubtedly, there are certain basic physical needs cannot be met without money, hence the need to prepare for a means of livelihood. However, man is not merely a creature who will be content with getting food, shelter and clothing; he was also a soul, which needs to be nurtured. 

 

Nevertheless, today it is a pity that the spiritual aspect of the personality is totally ignored. No wonder that the youth feel so restless, demoralized and disillusioned! We have already seen how the young in the Western countries are turning towards East for solace and spiritual comfort. They experience a sense of ennui and feel impatient with the preoccupation of their parents with work and money. It is largely due to the disillusionment of such people that men like Rajneesh, Mahesh Yogi, who promise salvation and spiritual regeneration, have such a large flowing but escaping from the realities of life is not the solution. 

 

The present education system and the attitude of the parents are largely responsible for the state of affairs. It is a fact that today education is important in inculcating spiritual and moral values and parents in urban areas are too preoccupied with their own lives to pay attention of the growing children. Consequently, children feel a lack of sense of direction and fall easy prey to drugs and other vices at an early age. Thus, there are many consequences if one does not attain the spiritualism right from childhood.

Spirituality is one of the main sectors in life. It plays a major role and especially when it comes to religion. However, not many know the exact meaning of spirituality. Most of them only know what it entails but cannot define it. Basically, there is no specific definition for spirituality. Helping Children Recognize Their Self-Worth


Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” We know that our self-talks and much of our low self-esteem comes not from what is said to us, but what we say to ourselves.

 

Have you ever had that experience where something someone says to you during the course of the day seems to repeat itself in your mind? Does it affect you as you go about your everyday business and make you feel unworthy and perhaps even interfere with your relationships? 

 

 Most of us have this experience on a regular basis and it’s not easy to forget the comments because our mind plays the words and eventually, we believe it ourselves. We may even convince ourselves of something that was not intended by the person who spoke the words to us.

 

We may not like to admit it, but we allow the words of others to affect us. We recite the child’s poem “sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” Yet we know they do! Most people would agree that long after broken bones heal, the pain of negative words lingers on. 

 

As children, we were often hurt by the negative talk of those who were the significant people in our lives. Even if we didn’t realize how those words affect us, we carried these negative thoughts into our adult years. We tend to filter what others say to us through the filer of our experiences. It is difficult to change our own perceptions, but for our children, it’s not too late. 

 

As parents and adults, we can help our children to develop strong self-esteem by thinking about the words we use when we talk to them. Teaching them to recognize their own self-worth is essential to helping them develop a strong self-esteem. Significant adults in children’s lives must give them lots of praise and help them to recognize their achievements. However, it is equally important to ensure that a child can recognize their own self-worth and to maintain strong self-esteem even when may need to be disciplined for things they do which may not be praiseworthy. 

 

As adults, we learn to hear praise and reject it consciously or subconsciously. When we learn to praise ourselves appropriately, we own the praise. Teaching a child to praise its own accomplishment teaches a child an important resource that will greatly help them in the future.

Meditating for Self-Discovery


Meditating can be a good way of tapping in to the subconscious to understand the self. Consider practicing meditation if you want to discover yourself. It helps you answer questions related to life. Meditation is important in making or deciding the path in which your life should take. You should not be discouraged if you do not seem to get the right answers keep on practicing meditation and in the end you will get to discover yourself. When you are meditating the brain seems to go a state of theta state. When you are in this state you encounter very minimal interference from the conscious bit of the mind and thus you successfully contact the subconscious bit of the mind. 

 

The first step towards self-discovery, is to begin by sitting in a place that is very comfortable and a room that has very minimum or utmost no disturbance at all. Consider lighting a few candles so that you have minimal light. Have a Nag Champa as this will help you have a very comfortable environment.

 

Take in to account the state of your breath. You should have a deep breath that comes from the diaphragm. You should consider the breath as it comes or as it is entering and leaving the nose. Continue paying attention to your breath if you have the intention of proper relaxation. If you there’s a specific question that you want to answer, consider raising this question from the start of the meditation process. If you want to shift careers consider posing this question right from the beginning. 

 

As you meditate your mind becomes engrossed in thoughts. Pay attention as the thoughts come and as they go. If there’s a thought that keeps on coming for long consider digging deeper in to that particular thought. When you will get an answer, you will know because you will have a feeling that this is right. There’ a powerful sense that will make you feels that indeed this is the right answer. If you find that you are becoming bored and that you are losing track, bring your breath back and be patient.

 

It is important to become open with your day to day lives. Some answers may come at some other days. Others may be when you are driving. Keep in mind that you should not force anything. Do not force the answers but have a receptive and open mind. This will help you discover yourself better.

 


Personality Development—How to Reach Where You Want to Reach


We come across many people in life, and they are all different in how they behave, how they react and reason. These people are all made different by the different personalities they have. Therefore, personality is the combination of mannerisms and attributes that makes one person distinct and unique from the other. Personality is formed as a result of many factors. 

 

First, there are personality traits that one inherits from parents and relatives. No wonder you find some of your traits and your likes and dislikes similar to those of your parents or relatives. There are some personality traits that we pick up along the way as we grow and live our lives. As we grow and live, we pick up habits, values and beliefs that are dependent on where we grow and who we grow, live or interact with. However, the traits we pick up in childhood stick the most more than the ones we get as we grow up. 

 

It is possible to design and develop your own personality. It is not a sealed fate set for us to act out, but you can control it and determine how it is going to work out. In other words, you can redesign even the hereditary traits to be what you would like them to be instead of letting them be what they were set to be. 

 

If you want to have successful personality development, you need to be honest with yourself on your personality type. There are four main personalities or temperaments you can use to classify yourself. These include sanguine, melancholy, choleric and phlegmatic. These four temperaments are very different, and there is no one person who has 100% of one trait. When someone is called a sanguine, it means that this temperament is the most outstanding. There are many personality tests you can take on the internet for you to exactly know where you lie. Without being honest with yourself about your personality, you will find this to be an uphill task. 

 

After being honest with yourself, look at the strengths and weaknesses of your personality type. Do your best to build on the strengths. For instance, if you are talkative and confident, use this to your advantage and let this trait boost your career and ambitions. If you are very patient, use this to your advantage and to the advantage those that surround you. Also, identify your weaknesses in a very honest and open way. Work on your weaknesses by making deliberate efforts. For instance, forgetfulness can be improved by ensuring that you have phone reminders and lists on your notice board.



Self-Discovery Starts by Loving Yourself


Self-discovery is greatly dependent on whether you love yourself. Love for oneself is a great asset that one can have in life. First and foremost, you should ask yourself who you are? To a very large extent, most of us are deeply engrossed on the day-to-day hustles and bustles of life. This entails; making ends meet, running our various businesses, starting new paths for our careers. We are deeply engrossed in this till we forget who really are. We never stop to discover self. 

 

Knowing yourself first entails come to the realization that first and foremost we are all unique beings and that to a very large extent, we are endowed with special gifts. We all have one or two things that we can do better than others. It is after discovering this that everything else in life takes shape. To a large extent this is the key that can unlock the door to everything that you are undertaking. A great number of us tend to believe that real happiness rests material things which are not the case. Happiness comes from discovering yourself.

 

To a large extent we only believe on those things that we can set our eyes on and can feel with our hands. We tend not to trust our inner self. The inner wisdom that we are all endowed with. When we were young, we are always told to always be perfect and to some extent that we are not that good enough. When you realize you are not yourself you stop carrying somebody’s luggage. It is important that we always act ourselves, we should not look down upon ourselves but rather believe that we are okay just the way we are. Always put yourself first, do not look down upon yourself. 

 

To a large extent if you do not love yourself, then there’s no way you can love somebody else. Loving yourself has nothing to do with ego; it does not mean looking down upon others or being too proud and zealous. There’s no way you can love others if at all you do not love yourself, then there’s no way you can love any other party and here you would be cheating both yourself and the people whom you claim to love. Thus, loving yourself opens up your life and it is through this that you can discover yourself.

 


Questions You Can Ask Yourself for Self-Discovery


Even though we are all endowed differently in terms of gifts and talents not all of us is well aware of what our endowments are. It is also true that most of us know what our strengths are but they do not know how to maximize on them. We do not know how to use them both for our own benefit and for the benefits of others. One of the main reasons why people do not maximize on their God given talents is the failure to discover them. Many young people have the problem of identifying who they are really are and what they are in this planet. They are not able to make solid decisions towards fruitful career choices. Ones that augur well with their personality.

 

It is sad to note that it is not only the young people that are affected with choices regarding their lives but even the older people have the problem of discovering their real self. Many adults make choices in life without taking their passions in to consideration. The problem is that they deny this undisputable fact and tend to keep to their comfort zone. They are afraid of changes n their life and prefer satisfying external desires. 

 

There a number of questions that you can ask yourself for self-discovery. These include; asking yourself the activity did you use to love doing when you were a child? You can also ask yourself that if you so happen to write a book what subject would you talk or rather what would you write about? Ask yourself what area or aspect in life that you feel you can comfortably help people in? Also ask yourself what your close associates and friends or even what you relatives say about you. Ask yourself of the dreams you are always day dreaming about. Search your memory and try remembering a certain day that you felt you utter mostly felt that happiness from deep within you.

 

All these questions will lead to the discovery of the real you. You will at the end of the day have a personal satisfaction of the direction or path that your life ought to take. You will be motivated and inspired. You will find yourself facing each and every day in a different way. With energy and vigor. You will be more confident about yourself and you can handle anything that comes your way with ease.
